John A. Watkins of
Kill Devil Hills and Bill Emanuelson of Howardsville, Va.
commissioned George Rhorbaugh of Manteo to build this model to honor
the accomplishments of Charles Wood of Edenton.
Lt. Wood was a pilot
with VT50, a squadron of Avengers that trained at NAAS Manteo (now
Dare County Regional Airport) during the fall of 1943 before moving
on to war assignments. The Avenger was a carrier based, single
engine torpedo bomber
