New Clerk to the Board for Dare County
Commissioners Begins Work
Katie Smith began the week of September 29 as the new Clerk to the
Board for the Dare County Board of Commissioners having finished the
interviewing process as the top candidate of well over 100 applicants.
All seven commissioners sat in on the interview process looking for the
best person to fill the shoes of the former clerk, Fran Harris who
retired in September. ``Fran was a terrific clerk for our Board
and she will be sorely missed. We knew how difficult it was going to be
to replace her, commented Commission Chairman Warren Judge. ``However,
we feel confident that Katie has the skills and the energy to do a great
job.
Smith had established a good track record working for boards having
served the Board of Directors of New River Valley Community Services (NRVCS)
in Blacksburg, Virginia. She worked at NRVCS nearly two years creating
and publishing the boards executive minutes, one of the chief tasks she
will perform for the Dare County Commissioners.
Most recently, Smith worked as a marketing coordinator for a local
business after moving to the Outer Banks earlier this year.
Smith says she already enjoys working for Dare County. On her first day
she was introduced to the county staff in the Administration Building in
Manteo where her office is located.
``I have already met so many wonderful people. I am truly looking
forward to embarking on my career with Dare County, she said.
Addressing her work responsibilities, Smith stated, ``I take pride in
being a trustworthy individual who consistently seeks out the unstated
tasks in order to go over and above what is required. I am excited to
have this opportunity to offer this work ethic to the Commissioners and
to the people of Dare County.
