Planning For Open House and Expo Continues 

``Plans are shaping up nicely for an educational and informative day for our community for the Open House Expo,’’ commented Gary Gross who heads up a group of county employees planning the Friday, May 30 community event for the new Dare County Administration Building. 

 The Open House Expo is an event for the community to tour the new building erected next to the Dare County Justice Center on Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo. 

Approximately 350 fourth graders will tour the building in small groups with their teachers while participating in activities and presentations that will help them better learn how local government serves them and their families through a variety of county services. 

Exhibits and presentations planned include such county services as: Emergency Management, Friends of Youth, Parks and Recreation, Public Works Sanitation, Recycling and Mosquito Control, Board of Elections, Teen Court and much more. 

``The emphasis will switch from educational sessions with the children to informative presentations when we welcome our community to their new building to take a tour on the afternoon of May 30,’’ said Dare County Commission Chairman Warren Judge. ``Visitors will have the opportunity to meet our staff members who work hard every day for all of us and ask them any questions they may have at that time.’’ 

The afternoon segment will be highlighted by an Official Ribbon Cutting during a dedication ceremony scheduled for 5 p.m. No reservations or advance notice is necessary.

Gary Gross, paramedic with the Dare County Emergency Medical Services, is heading up a committee planning activities for the May 30 `` Protecting Our Children Open House Expo.’’ The event will be held at the Dare County Administration Building on Marshall C. Collins Drive in Manteo from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the community. Light refreshments will be available from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony to be held at 5 p.m.
