Dare County Tax Department is accepting applications for a Personal Property Appraiser for Motor Vehicles. This position performs specialized, independent processing of all records involved primarily with the listing and assessing of motor vehicles for personal property tax purposes.  Also supports in the listing and assessment of other personal property classified in North Carolina as taxable personal property, such as mobile homes and watercraft.  Supports multiple clerical and tax processes within the business personal; revaluation; and land records departments as needed.  Work includes all clerical and record keeping activities, including data entry, office and field auditing, maintaining records, and preparing specialized reports and summary statements.   This position requires ability to clearly and concisely communicate in oral and written form.  Must be available for office or field support during storm events.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant County Assessor, with direct supervision of a Senior Property Appraiser.  Graduation from high school required, preferably with mathematical aptitude.  College degree, or college course work preferred.  Will consider equivalent customer service, and or relevant office experience and mathematical aptitude.  Within two years of employment, must attain certification as a North Carolina Personal Property Appraiser, requiring two one-week courses of instruction as stipulated by the N.C. Department of Revenue’s Property Tax Division.  Pre-employment drug testing, background check, and valid Driver's License required.  . Dare County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
