Dare County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Track Man with Warrants to House Breaking and Entering

On July 21, 2016, Dare County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, A-District, were attempting to serve warrants on a man for violating a pre-trial release order for a pending assault by strangulation charge and other failure to appears. The Deputies were able to track the man to a house located on Johnston Lane in Kitty Hawk, NC. When the Deputies arrived at the house they noticed the house had been broken into and there was someone still inside. The Deputies set up a perimeter and contacted Kitty Hawk Police Department to assist them. The man inside realized the Deputies were outside and surrendered to them prior to Kitty Hawk Police arriving. Kitty Hawk Police arrived and handled the breaking and entering scene. The man was transported to the Dare County Detention Center where he was processed for the warrants and other charges by Kitty Hawk Police Department and North Carolina Probation and Parole. Josiah Evan Gwatkin (W/M, 24)
Gwatkin was charged with the following and being held in lieu of a $41,500 secured bond;
Misdemeanor Warrant for Failure to Appear
First Degree Trespassing
Misdemeanor Warrant for Failure to Appear
Resisting a Public Official
Violation of the Pre-Trail Release Order for Assault by Strangulation
Misdemeanor Breaking and Entering
Misdemeanor Injury to Real/Personal Property
2 Counts Misdemeanor Probation Violation
