911 Communications Director Receives Employee of the Month

Captain Trey Piland, Director of the Dare County Sheriff's Office 911 Communications Center, is the June 2016 Dare County Employee of the Month. Sheriff Doug Doughtie, presented Piland with the award at the June 6, 2016 Board of Commissioners meeting. 

Piland was hired in April 2013 as a Deputy Sheriff Master Officer in the Criminal Investigations Division. In December 2013, he was promoted to Deputy Sheriff Captain as the Director of Communications. 

As Director of the Sheriff's Office 911 Communications Center, Piland is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing operations of staff engaged in providing emergency dispatch services for 7 law enforcement agencies, Dare County EMS, 16 local fire departments and ocean rescue agencies, the National Park Service, Animal Control, NC Highway Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Piland directs the training of telecommunications staff to ensure proper communications procedures are followed and ensures compliance with Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations. 

"Trey has been tasked with planning the County's new 911 center. He has worked diligently to make sure that the 911 board received documentation to ensure staff will have the equipment that is needed to run the new center affordably and efficiently. He has made certain the environment that the telecommunicators will be working in will be comfortable, secure and accommodating," remarked Doughtie. 

"Trey does everything in the world to ensure his staff has what they need to do their jobs. He is accessible to everyone, cares about his staff and colleagues and is a valuable employee," said Doughtie.
