Paramedic Receives Employee of the Month

Erika Griffin, Paramedic with the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department, is the January 2017 Dare County Employee of the Month. Public Safety Director, Jennie Collins, presented Griffin with the award at the January 3, 2016 Board of Commissioners meeting.
Griffin was hired in 2008 and has worked as a Paramedic with EMS since beginning her career with Dare County. Griffin was nominated by coworkers for being a vital asset to the department.
“Erika always helps with training new Paramedics and EMTs as they come into the department. She is very giving of her knowledge,” said Collins.
Erika was described by a coworker as being calm and compassionate, with a thorough knowledge base as a paramedic. She is instrumental with tracking the pharmaceutical inventory and personally fills the orders that keep ambulances and the helicopter stocked with the appropriate medications.
“Erika has been involved with our supply function for years now and keeps inventory for all the supplies we need. It helps control costs and account for everything. With her knowledge, Erika set up computer spreadsheets to help up keep track of what drugs on our ambulances will be expiring soon. It has helped us tremendously in our day to day logistics,” remarked Collins during the presentation.
Most recently, Erika stepped up to the plate and organized a team to coordinate various activities for the EMS Department’s participation in Toys for Tots this past holiday season. She contact several local businesses and led the EMS team’s effort to collect a record 1,525 toys for local children.
