Ray Griggs, Carpenter with the Building and Grounds Division of the Dare County Department of Public Works, is the March 2017 Dare County Employee of the Month. Buildings & Grounds Superintendent, Mark Fowler, presented Griggs with the award at the March 6, 2017 Board of Commissioners meeting.
Griggs was hired in July 2014 and has worked in his current position since starting with Dare County. On a daily basis, Griggs performs general carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, remodeling, and repair of county property and facilities. He also assists coworkers within his department on various jobs.
“It’s nice to have an employee like Ray that you can hand an assignment to and not have to think about it again because you know it’s going to be handled perfectly. We don’t have to hold his hand; he demonstrates a high level of skill and professionalism. Not only is he a very skilled and talented carpenter, he oversees safety in our department. He also singlehandedly heads up the keys and security for every facility within the county, from Duck to the ferry docks in Hatteras” said Fowler.
According to a coworker, Ray takes on large and small jobs with professionalism and a positive attitude. He has worked many hours to organize and implement a successful key system for all county facilities. This required both patience and an understanding of key lock systems and access hierarchy.
