Valuable information about Medicare programs is provided by the Adult & Senior Services Department through the Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP). This innovative program created by the North Carolina Department of Insurance offers free counseling about general Medicare issues, insurance for long-term care, and Medicare's prescription drug coverage.
The Dare County Center encourages those 55 and older to participate in the Dare County Senior Games. Each spring Seniors have fun competing in a wide range of sporting events and artistic performances. Like the Olympics, achievements are recognized with gold, silver, and bronze awards and the privilege of representing Dare County in the statewide North Carolina Senior Games. While the program honors personal and team accomplishments, the emphasis is all about being active and having fun.
