HISTORY

The Thomas A. Baum Senior Center was dedicated December 7, 1987 in honor of a Dare County pioneer in transportation. Thomas A Baum designed, built, and operated ferries in the early 1900's and was an advocate of local economic development. The Baum family preserved this tract of land for public use in recognition of the love Thomas A Baum had for the Outer Banks.
