Each County in
North Carolina has a Board
of Elections. The Board of Elections is a three-person board
which is appointed every two years by the State Board of
Elections. (Members of the State Board of Elections are
appointed by the Governor.)
County
Board
members
take an oath and begin their two year terms the Tuesday
following the third Monday in July in odd-numbered years. No
more than two members of the
County
Board
of Elections shall belong to the same political party.
The
Board of Elections is the only statutory bi-partisan,
quasi-judicial supervisory board in
North Carolina
State
government.
The
local Board is charged with duties imposed by law, which include
making and issuing rules, regulations, and instructions, not
inconsistent with law or the rules established by the State
Board of Elections, as it may deem necessary for the guidance of
election officers and voters.
Board
meetings are open to the public and scheduled on the last
Tuesday of every month at the
Dare
County
Board of Elections office at 954
