Who Are The Friends Of Youth?
They are people like you who are concerned about the future of the youth in Dare County. They are adult volunteers who  freely give their time to provide our young people with the guidance and friendship they desperately need. They are caring individuals who are matched with a troubled youth and spend four hours of one-on-one time each week for a year with that youth. Through this time together, they give the youth self esteem, love and a chance to start over. If you are unable to commit to a one-on-one relationship, sponsor a group activity. It's a great way for an individual or business to make a valuable contribution to the Friends of Youth program.

Who Are The Youth?
There are boys and girls between the ages of 7-17 who are referred through the court systems, law enforcement agencies, and the schools. The youth in the program are just like any other adolescent or pre-teen with difficulties and challenges, but they often have limited resources to deal with their problems.THEY NEED A CARING FRIEND.

What Are The Requirements to be a Volunteer?

  • Have the time to spend with a youth
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have reliable transportation
  • Complete a training course
  • Successfully pass a background check
  • Care about our youth and their future
