Mosquito Control |

Dare County Mosquito Control aims to improve the residential life of both the citizens and tourists of this county by suppressing mosquito populations and in effect eliminating potential mosquito borne diseases. The concept of integrated mosquito management is an essential element of this county’s mosquito control program. The goal of Integrated Mosquito Management (IMM) is to control mosquito populations by using the most effective and economical procedures and materials available with the least adverse effects to the surrounding environment. Four components of IMM were defined by the AMCA in its partnership in the EPA Pesticide Environmental Stewardship Program: source reduction, larviciding, adulticiding, and biological control. Although the suppression of mosquito populations is important to the residential life of this community, the main focus of this program is the elimination of potential mosquito borne diseases. Mosquitoes are capable of carrying a number of arthropod-borne viruses. The two arboviruses that are of concern in Dare County are Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) and West Nile Virus (WNV). Protecting from mosquito bites and mosquito borne diseases are responsible decisions that every citizen should take. The following guidelines should be followed to lessen any potential risk.
