The Wastewater Treatment Plant has several obligations to the county. Each of the following systems or monitoring programs requires a NC State certified operator to be in charge. The Wastewater Treatment Department is in charge of the operation and samplings taken, of the wastewater treatment plant and the low-pressure pipe system at the Dare County Detention Center. This department oversees the ground water and gas monitoring programs at the Stumpy Point C&D and East Lake Landfill sites. This department also monitors the low-pressure pipe system at the Dare County satellite office in the Kill Devil Hills as well as the Wastewater Lift Station at the College of Albemarle, Manteo campus.
