Dare County Taxation Notice 

North Carolina General Statute 105-274 requires that all personal property within the jurisdiction of the state is subject to taxation unless it has been specifically excluded by statute.   

Aircrafts, boats, mobile homes, and business assets are considered personal property and must be listed for personal property tax each January during the regular listing period.  Listing a property involves providing a year built, make, model, serial number, and description of the property, along with the purchase price.  The value of the property for tax purposes is established from this information. 

Registering watercraft with the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Boat Registration Division does not list that property for tax purposes with the Dare County Tax Listing Department.   

Registering an aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration does not list that property for tax purposes with the Dare County Tax Listing Department.   

If any of the above properties are located in Dare County, the registered owner(s) should call 475-5950 or 475-5951 to list their property and establish an account.
