Emergency Medical Services in Dare County are provided at the Advanced Life Support (ALS) level of care. All personnel hold credentials issued by the State of North Carolina, which require a high level of continuing education and on-going training. Paramedics also maintain certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).

Critical care transports from The Outer Banks Hospital to other medical facilities are done throughout the region. Dare County EMS also operates Dare MedFlight, an areomedical service providing rapid transport for critically injured and ill patients.
EMS staff are stationed at 8 facilities throughout Dare County. The public is welcome to stop-by any EMS station for a routine blood pressure or glucose check as a free service. The duty crew will be happy to help unless they are out of the building responding to a call. However, IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING A MEDICAL EMERGENCY – DIAL 911 instead of attempting to make the trip to an EMS station.
The Administrative Offices for Dare County EMS are located at Station 1 in Kill Devil Hills at 1632 N Croatan Hwy.
