Access to Health Care Task Force

Many variables impact access to health care for Dare County residents. For example, the number of people under or un-insured is higher in Dare County than in North Carolina and the ratio of health care professionals is lower in Dare County than statewide.

The Access to Health Care Task Force was re-established to address access issues and improve access to essential health services for those that are most at risk with in our community. The task force partners with the NC Dental Society to host an annual dental clinic to provide free care to adults. The clinic is held in October and provides critical dental services to hundreds of under or un-insured adults. In addition to increasing access to dental care, this task force is partnering with NC HealthNet, an initiative that links local safety net organizations and indigent care programs, and provides free and reduced cost health care services for uninsured adults with Community Care of NC’s networks of physicians and services.

This task force plans to explore ways to improve other access issues such as transportation and legislation.
