Outer Banks Women's Club Angel Gift Program


Applications for the Outer Banks Women's Club Angel Gift Program will be taken at the Dare County DHHS, Division of Social Services Offices the week of October 20-24 and again the week of October 27-31. Flu Shot Clinic


The Public Health Division of Dare County Department of Health and Human Services (DCDHHS) recommends a yearly flu vaccine as the first and most important step in protecting against the influenza virus. Everyone 6 months of age and older should be vaccinated against the flu.

Thursday, October 31 at the Dare County Department of Health & Human Services Public Health Division campus in Manteo.
Time: 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Free shots are provided for ALL CHILDREN 6 months to 18 years who have Medicaid, do not have insurance or their insurance does not cover vaccinations. Insurance claims will be filed for children who are insured by Blue Cross Blue Shield or Health Choice.

Insurance claims will also be filed for adults with Blue Cross Blue Shield or Medicare. Otherwise, the cost of the flu shot for adults and children is $35.00.

Navigating Dementia Care Workshop


The Healthy Carolinians Dementia Care Task Force will be hosting a workshop series for families & friends coping with dementia related illnesses on Tuesday, November 4th from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon at the Kill Devil Hills Library. Presented by Melanie Bunn, MS, RN, GNP who is a Dementia Training Specialist with Alzheimers NC. Workshop includes; the latest in dementia care, types and progression of dementia, approaches and strategies for care, effective communication techniques, question and answer time with the speaker. Navigating Dementia Care


For families and friends of individuals coping with dementia related illnesses, the sea of information can be daunting. A 3 hour workshop entitled 'Navigating Dementia Care' will offer caregivers knowledge regarding the latest in dementia concerns, types and progression of dementia and other topics. Please join us on November 4, 2014 at The Library Meeting Room in Kill Devil Hills. Workshops will be presented by Melanie Bunn, RN, MS. Ms. Bunn is a Dementia Training Specialist for Alzheimers North Carolina and founder of Bunn Consulting. She has worked with older people with and without dementia and their families in a variety of settings; including hospitals, long term care and at home.

Respite reimbursement is available. Registration is encouraged, as workshops will fill quickly. Please call for more information, 252.449.4455.
