Horseshoes Tournament & Cookout

Join us at the Thomas A. Baum Center for a horseshoes tournament and cookout on Monday, July 6th to celebrate Independence Day! Cost will be $5/person for food. Emergency Preparedness Planning Workshop

The Dare County Center in Manteo will be discussing ways to plan and prepare for emergencies and disasters on Tuesday, July 7th at 12:00 noon. The likelihood that you and your family will recover from an emergency tomorrow often depends on the planning and preparation today. While each person's abilities and needs are unique every individual can take steps to prepare for all kinds of emergencies. By evaluating your own personal needs and making an emergency plan that fits those needs you and your loved ones can be better prepared. No need to register, just show up for more information. If you would like to eat lunch and are 60 or over, please call 72 hours in advance to schedule lunch.

Rock Star Magic of Chris & Neal

The Dare County Library's Summer Reading Program kicks off on Tuesday, July 7 with the high energy and dynamic magic show, "Rock Star Magic of Chris & Neal." Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Hatteras Library 9:00 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Manteo Library 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Kill Devil Hills Library 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Dare County Library's Summer Reading Program is planned to promote participation in weekly programs scheduled at every library location, or for individual participation on their own time. Children can stop by the library any time it's open to report their reading progress. Children in grades K-5 will receive small incentive prizes as they report reading progress and are entered into a drawing to win a grand prize.

Preschool age children are invited to enroll in a special Summer Reading Program just for them, designed to improve their reading and listening skills. Parents can track the books they read with or read to their preschoolers. The children will receive a sticker for each book tracked on their reading log.

Dare Hospice Care Volunteer Training

The Dare County Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Division offers training to anyone interested in volunteering for Hospice care. Volunteer hours are flexible and no medical experience is necessary.

Volunteer meetings are held at the Baum Center the second Wednesday of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Breakfast is provided. For more information or if you are interested in volunteer with Dare Hospice, please call Jeff Slaker at 252.475.5057

All Ages Pool Tournament

On Thursday, July 9th the Dare County Center in Manteo will host an 8 ball billiards tournament. The tournament will start at 9:00 a.m. and is open to men and women ages 18 & up. Fee to play is $5.00 per participant. Register and pay by noon on Wednesday, July 8th. Minimum of 8 players required to hold tournament.
