Commissioners Extend Deadline for Discounted Water Hookup on Roanoke Island
At the request of Roanoke Island residents who missed the deadline for discounted rates for the Water Expansion Project, the Dare County Commissioners have extended the deadline. The original deadline of June 29, 2012 has been extended to August 31, 2012.
The Roanoke Island Water Expansion Project includes the installation of 56.5 miles of water lines and 240 fire hydrants, to serve and protect homes and properties on Roanoke Island. It addition to providing a valuable resource to citizens in the event of fire, water customers will have a safe and reliable source of drinking water. To date, over 2,600 property owners in the project area have subscribed for service.
Hooking up to the water system is not mandatory for Roanoke Island residents. However, those who choose to establish a water connection will receive the reduced price of $447 if the application and deposit are received by August 31, 2012. After August 31, the initial subscriber period will end, and the cost for a standard, 3/4" water connection will return to the full cost of $2,947.
An additional $1,700 impact fee is required for customers outside of the project area who did not previously receive an assessment. The impact fee may be financed for $170.00 per year for 10 years with zero interest.
Application and payment for new connections can be made at the Dare County Water Department at 600 Mustian Street in Kill Devil Hills, next door to the Kill Devil Hills Library. Call 252.475.5990 for more information.
