Nominations Being Accepted for Governor's Volunteer Service Award
Dare County is accepting nominations for the 2013 Governor's Volunteer Service Award. This year marks 35 consecutive years of this program showcasing North Carolina's most dedicated volunteers. Through the years, North Carolinians have proven their concern and compassion for their neighbors by volunteering in their local communities.
A local committee will select five individuals, businesses, or groups/teams and one Director of Volunteers to be recognized for their outstanding contributions to their communities. One of the five recipients will be nominated to receive the Governor's Medallion Award for volunteer service.
All nomination forms must be completed and returned by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, October 24, to Youth Services, Room 228 in the Dare County Administration Building located at 954 Marshall C. Collins Drive, Manteo NC 27954 or the Outer Banks Community Foundation at 13 Skyline Road, Southern Shores, NC 27949. Nomination forms in Adobe pdf format or Microsoft Word can be downloaded from the Dare County website at www.darenc.com.
Nominations will also be accepted by mail at P.O. Box 1000, Manteo, NC 27954, Attention: Governor's Awards.
In 2012, five Dare County citizens and one local organization were recipients of the 2012 North Carolina Governor's Volunteer Service Award: Tess Judge of All Saints Episcopal Church; Julie Hume of Kitty Hawk Methodist Church; Gail Leonard of Interfaith Community Outreach; Marsha Riibner-Cady of Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast; Clay Richardson of Outer Banks Hospital; and Pirate's Cove Vacation Rentals and Property Management Homeowner's Association. Marsha Riibner-Cady also received the Governor's Medallion Award.
