Sheriff Deputy, Major Norman Johnson Receives Employee of the Month Award

NormanJohnson Deputy Sheriff, Major Norman Johnson with the Dare County Sheriff's Department is the September 2012 Dare County Employee of the Month. Sheriff Doug Doughtie presented Johnson with the award at the September 4, 2012 Board of Commissioners meeting.

"As head of the Criminals Investigations Division (C.I.D.) and the Narcotics Investigations Division for the Dare County Sheriff's Department, Major Johnson puts in on average 10 to 11 hour days," said Sheriff Doughtie. "He doesn't ever turn a phone call down; he always comes out when you call him. He's my go-to guy."

Johnson has worked for the Sheriff's Department for 30 years and will retire on November 1, 2012. Johnson's career began in 1982 as a jailer and dispatcher with the Sheriff's office. He was promoted to Deputy Sheriff Sergeant in 1985. In 2008, Johnson became the Detention Center Administrator where he oversaw the Dare County Detention Center. In 2009, he was promoted to Deputy Sheriff Major. "There are some people you just can't replace and Norman is one of those people," said Sheriff Doughtie. "Major Johnson commands respect wherever he goes and that's because he treats everyone with respect."

"In the last three months, we've had a couple of domestic cases that could have gone real bad. Norman and his team have worked diligently to ensure, those who needed to be charged were charged to the full extent of the law because we knew if they got out, something bad was going to happen." Doughtie commented during the presentation.

Congratulations to Deputy Sheriff, Major Norman Johnson for being named September 2012 Dare County Employee of the Month.
