NC 12 SOUTH OF OREGON INLET AREA Ocean Overwash
THERE IS APPROXIMATELY 1 INCH OF WATER OF OCEAN OVERWASH AT THE BUXTON MOTEL. SAME IS STILL PASSABLE. DUE TO OCEAN OVER WASH AT THE SOUTH END OF THE NEW INLET BRIDGE, TRAFFIC IS DOWN TO ONE LANE. NCDOT IS ON LOCATION DIRECTING TRAFFIC. SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEWPORT/MOREHEAD CITY NC OUTER BANKS DARE-INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...KILL DEVIL HILLS...KITTY HAWK... NAGS HEAD...SOUTHERN SHORES 419 PM EDT FRI OCT 3 2014 ...HIGH WATER COVERS PORTIONS OF HIGHWAY 12 NEAR RODANTHE LATE TODAY...THE COMBINATION OF HIGH TIDE AND LARGE PERIOD EASTERLY SWELL HAS PRODUCED OCEAN OVERWASH AT THE HIGHWAY 12 TEMPORARY BRIDGE NORTH OF PEA ISLAND LATE TODAY. EXPECT THIS HIGH WATERS TO CONTINUE UNTIL ABOUT 6 PM THEN THE FALLING TIDE AND DIMINISHING SEAS SHOULD ALLOW THE WATER TO FLOW BACK OUT TO SEA. MOTORISTS TRAVELING ALONG HIGHWAY 12 NEAR RODANTHE ARE ADVISED TO USE CAUTION AND EXPECT SOME DELAYS DUE TO THE HIGH WATER.
