DCTS vans are operated by grants from NC DOT Public Transportation Division and funds from Dare County. DCTS may not operate in competition with private transportation such as taxi (same-day or immediate service) or charter service van dedicated to a group/function). Therefore, a two day notice for transportation is required to prepare a daily schedule for door-to-door service.

DCTS vans are maintained by the Dare County Maintenance Department. All vans are equipped with cell phones. Riders will be given a calling card when exiting the DCTS van and may call the van when ready for return trips. For your safety, drivers may assist riders while boarding and exiting the DCTS vans. However, if a rider needs further assistance, the rider is responsible to have someone accompany them inside the residence, and/or have someone accompany them while riding the DCTS vans.

DCTS provides public transportation within Dare County, Monday - Friday. DCTS provides "Out of County" transportation for medical appointments on Tuesdays & Thursdays for all destinations other than Greenville, NC. *Greenville transportation is provided on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.

Transportation is NOT provided on weekends or a holiday observed by Dare County employees. The holidays are: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King's birthday, Easter-Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving (two days) and Christmas (3 days)
