CAPE HATTERAS PLANT LAB

Our finished water is tested for Color, Iron, pH, Phosphate, Fluoride, Hardness, Chloride, Total Dissolved Solids, Conductivity, and Free and Total Chlorine twice daily. Our wells are currently being tested on a bi-weekly basis. We use the certified lab at the NRO Plant for our required coliform monthly testing. We are also required to send various samples to outside labs to comply with North Carolina State regulations.

Lab Equipment

The following is a list of our lab equipment that we use in our testing.

Hach DR 4000 Spectrophotometer
This is a microprocessor-operated laboratory instrument pre-programmed with calibrations for most water management test requirements.

Hach EC-10 pH Meter

The basic principle of electrometric pH measurement is a determination of the activity of the hydrogen ions by photentiometic measurement using a standard hydrogen electrode and a reference electrode.

Hach Sension 5 Conductivity Meter
A conductivity meter is used to measure the total dissolved solids in water, primarily dissolved salts.
