TECHNICAL SERVICES DIVISION

There are three sections within the Technical Services Division: Instrument Control, Information Systems, and GIS

TECHNICAL SERVICES SUPERINTENDENT (Information Systems)

The Technical Services Superintendent oversees the Technical Services division. Maintains and troubleshoots all computers in water department, including plant process control systems. Orders needed hardware and software. Works with the Information Technology department to maintain water department network. Maintains the water department web site and Channel 20 presentation.

INSTRUMENT CONTROL

The Senior Instrument Technician maintains electrical equipment, orders parts and supplies, review plans and specifications and gives comments/suggestions, oversees development of process control and SCADA systems.

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS)

The Dare County Water Department is setting up a visual reference of all departmental assets using the form of a GIS (Geographic Information System).

A GIS is an organized collection of computer hardware, software, geographic data, and personnel designed to efficiently capture, store, update, manipulate, analyze, and display all forms of geographically referenced information.

Previously, the GIS office concentrated solely on data collection of all water system assets. While that goal is still the office's main emphasis, additional attention is being focused on attaching specific information to each geographically referenced asset. Future goals include tying the GIS to the department's CIS (Customer Information System) for use in the water department's billing section. Another future goal is to quickly supply field crews with important information using laptop computers and the internet.
