he Coastal Gardening Festival is almost here! This year's theme is Plant and They Will Come, so come to the festival and immerse yourself in the world of pollinators and the plants they love. Learn how to attract pollinators, save the bees, and just have some good ol' gardening fun! Dare County Master Gardeners have planned a fantastic day filled with plant sales; vendors of every description; children's activities; treats to eat; educational displays and demonstrations; raffles and prizes; tours of the Arboretum; and much more!
The annual Coastal Gardening Festival is planned, organized, and implemented entirely by Dare County Master Gardener Volunteers! This is an enormous project with only one goal in mind - to support the mission of the Dare County Master Gardener program, which is to provide free horticultural education in Dare County. The Dare County Extension Master Gardener Volunteer Association was created to raise funds to support Dare County's Master Gardener Volunteer projects that fulfill this mission. Not only do they go through a three-month training program, they also recommit themselves each year to continuing their education while they volunteer and share what they learn throughout Dare County. This host of hardworking gardeners takes their mission seriously! They have created and maintain the Arboretum and Teaching Garden next to the Baum Center that you may visit anytime from sunup to sundown for free, and learn all about gardening on the coast. They staff a Greenline that you may call, visit, or email with all your gardening questions. They present the annual Library Garden Series that brings you quality horticultural presentations at your local libraries and on local television. And these are just some of the activities where you will find a Master Gardener in our community!
