Post Date:05/19/2016 10:00 a.m.
The 2016 Governor's Volunteer Service Awards were presented to three recipients from Hatteras Island at the May 16, 2016 meeting of the Dare County Commissioners, held at the Fessenden Center in Buxton. Award recipients are (left to right): Natalie McIntosh, a volunteer with Hatteras Island Meals; Ray & Claire Schaaf, volunteers with the Cape Hatteras Men's Food Pantry & Emergency Assistance Program; and Sandi Jones Garrison, a volunteer with Dare Home Health & Dare Hospice.

The Governor's Volunteer Service Award honors people who have shown concern and compassion for their neighbors by making a significant contribution to their community through volunteer service. The award was created in the Office of the Governor in 1979.

A presentation will be made to seven award recipients from the northern beaches, Roanoke Island and the mainland at a Dare County Commissioners meeting to be held in Manteo in July.
