Lieutenant Pete Wright with Emergency Medical Services, is the May 2016 Dare County Employee of the Month. Jennie Collins, Public Safety Director, presented Wright with the award at the May 2, 2016 Board of Commissioners meeting.
"Pete has always been a professional and is very dedicated to training. He encourages his coworkers to seek the positions they want to get into within the Department and the training necessary to fulfill the role," remarked Collins.
"A coworker recently expressed interest in a different position within the department but eventually drew back because he was feeling uncomfortable in his skills area. Pete reached out to encourage his coworker and initiated several training sessions to shore up the skills his coworker was feeling uncomfortable with. Pete trained with him, encouraged him, and built up his confidence," said Collins during the presentation.
Wright was hired in March 2005 as an EMT Basic. He was previously employed as a marine electrical technician for the NCDOT Ferry Division. His previous experience and skills have been beneficial to EMS for minor vehicle electrical troubleshooting. In January 2013, Wright was promoted to Lieutenant. On a daily basis he supervises a variety of personnel. Wright is a member of the Dare Medflight crew and recently received his Critical Care Flight Paramedic credential.
During the nomination process, a coworker expressed their gratitude to Wright following a medical emergency involving his father, "Pete helped me by providing emotional support as a friend and still maintained his leadership capacity while assisting to find a replacement for my shift so I could go see my father. Leaders like Pete Wright deserve more recognition and a huge thanks for helping to support the service, serving the community and helping each one of us evolve into better paramedics and stronger people."
"For Pete's professionalism, his passion for EMS, his dedication to continuous learning and the development of the men and women within the EMS Department, he deserves to be recognized as Employee of the Month," remarked Collins.
