Preparedness Coordinator Receives Employee of the Month
James Wooten, Preparedness Coordinator and Safety Officer, with the Department of Health & Human Services, is the August 2016 Dare County Employee of the Month. Roxana Balinger, Health Education and Outreach Director, presented Wooten with the award at the September 6, 2016 Board of Commissioners meeting.
"Recenty, James identified potential unmet emergency preparedness needs in the Hatteras Island community and took it upon himself to pursue grant funding to meet those needs. His efforts in developing and implementing the Kits for the Cape project were simply outstanding," said Balinger during the presentation.
In early 2016, Wooten applied for and received a grant from the NC Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response to prepare 150 emergency kits to be provided to older adults and residents in need. The kits were distributed during the kickoff to this year's hurricane season in June.
Wooten was hired in 2011 as an Environmental Health Specialist. In January 2014, he was promoted to his current position. Wooten was nominated by Emergency Management Director Drew Pearson and numerous coworkers.
"James not only does great work for Dare County, he is an outstanding member of the community. He has spent hundreds of hours becoming a certified Fire Fighter for the Town of Nags Head. He has unwavering commitment to the community and is always willing to serve," remarked Balinger.
