Beginning January 2018, Dare County students in grades K-12 can complete a form on the Dare County website to receive a library account number that allows access to all Dare County Library digital resources. To register, visit darenc.com/library and look for the Children’s Services section. Once a student completes the form, library staff will provide a library account number and PIN (Personal Identification Number) via email. No parental signature is required since a student is not creating any potential financial liability because eBooks and databases cannot be returned late or lost/not returned.
The Dare County Library has many online and digital resources available for students in grades K-12 such as eBooks across multiple platforms, as well as databases, test preparation tools and full text magazine and journal articles via NCLIVE, the state-wide consortium.
These accounts can only be used for accessing online materials and cannot be used for borrowing physical items such as books from the libraries. However, any Student Online Access Account can easily be upgraded for full borrowing privileges in-person at any of the three library locations with a parental signature and proof of local address.
Dare County Libraries encourage all parents to bring their children into any library to receive a Dare County library card with full borrowing privileges that provides access to over 250,000 items owned by the eight libraries in the East Albemarle Regional Library System, as well as the vast array of digital resources available from home 24/7.
