Arnold Blackmond, Grounds Maintenance Worker in the Turf Maintenance Division of the Dare County Public Works Department, is the November 2016 Dare County Employee of the Month. Landscape Supervisor, Ron Mills, presented Blackmond with the award at the November 7, 2016 Board of Commissioners meeting.
“Arnold is one of the most devoted, dedicated and responsible employees we’ve ever had in Turf Maintenance. He is always available and I am able to count on him in short notice and during storm situations,” said Mills during the presentation.
Blackmond was hired in 2007 and has worked for Turf Maintenance for the last nine years. Blackmond’s daily responsibilities include providing general landscape services for facilities across the county including mowing, planting trees and shrubs, fertilizing and general clean-up activities.
“Arnold is very accepting of new jobs and challenges even when they fall outside the realm of his regular duties and job description and he does it all without complaint. He has a great rapport with his colleagues and a good sense of humor,” said Mills.
“This past summer, we were short-handed and down one man from our team. Arnold stepped up, didn’t take a single day off, and he helped get the job done every day without complaints, despite the added workload and pressure,” remarked Mills.
When Blackmond isn’t working, he enjoys cooking and spending time with his family.
