Audit Report and 2016 Annual Financial Report
Finance Director David Clawson presented the County’s 2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), detailing the County’s various funds and component units.
Dare County received an “unqualified” or clean opinion on its financial audit for the year that ended June 30, 2016. The report documented that the County has significantly increased its General Fund balance level and improved the deficit in the Insurance Fund balance.
A lot of interesting and valuable information is included in the report and citizens are encouraged to take a look at the complete document to learn more about the county’s financial health. The report can be accessed online at darenc.com/finance.

Supporting Our Watermen
Enjoy eating North Carolina shrimp? If so, it’s time to support our local watermen and speak out against a petition that calls for habitat protections that would have a devastating impact on shrimp trawling in North Carolina waters. Commissioner Steve House reported that five advisory committees to the North Carolina Marine Fisheries Commission will meet jointly on January 17 to discuss and take public comment on a petition filed by the North Carolina Wildlife Federation.
The meeting on January 17 will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, 203 South Front St., New Bern. To accommodate as many speakers as possible, those who wish to give public comment at the meeting will be limited to three minutes per person.
Can’t attend the meeting? Written comments will be accepted from Dec. 20 through 5 p.m. on Jan. 20. Submit comments to NCWFPetition@ncdenr.gov or mail to NCWF Petition, Marine Fisheries Commission Office, N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, PO Box 769, Morehead City, N.C. 28557
