Sarah Bradshaw, Social Worker IV with the Social Services Division of the Dare County Department of Health and Human Services is the August 2018 Dare County Employee of the Month. Social Services Division Director Chuck Lycett presented Bradshaw with the award at the August 6, 2018 Board of Commissioners meeting.
Bradshaw began working for Dare County in July 2009. “As our Senior Foster Care Social Worker, Sarah has handled some of the most difficult foster care cases in Dare County. She also handles some of our long term foster care cases. She’s not only a social worker but she’s a teacher, a parent, an advocate, a voice of reason and a friend,” remarked Lycett during the presentation.
Bradshaw is also responsible for the age 18 to 21 foster care program. This program allows young adults who were in foster care at the age of 18 to remain in foster care until the age of 21. By doing so, these young adults receive guidance, financial and emotional support and access to services as they transition into adulthood. Many of these young adults don’t have parents or foster parents to turn to for advice, direction or comfort and that is where Bradshaw steps in.
“Sarah is a patient, kind hearted, thoughtful, dedicated and caring social worker. She has learned to balance the heartache and frustrations of working with abused and neglected children with seeing the good that can come when they are provided with nurturing support,” stated Lycett.
In addition to her daily social work duties, Bradshaw was identified as a County Champion for NC FAST, a state program, and led the County’s team tasked with preparing and training staff to begin using the NC FAST system. She continues in this role training new staff, troubleshooting system problems, and communicates regularly with state employees in Raleigh regarding the program.
