Claudia Neal, Senior Foreign Language Interpreter, is the December 2018 Dare County Employee of the Month. Senior Administrative Officer Tammy Reber, presented Neal with the award at the December 3, 2018 Board of Commissioners meeting.
“Claudia always presents a positive attitude and has a great work ethic. She is a team player and goes above and beyond every single day,” said Reber during the presentation.
Neal was hired in 2011 and is a valuable resource to her colleagues in the Department of Health and Human Services. She performs comprehensive support and interpretive services for clients of Social Services and Public Health experiencing language barriers.
“Claudia works in some very stressful situations where the clients may be angry or stressed and her demeanor, skills and ability are an asset to the agency,” remarked Reber.
A coworker remarked during the nomination process, “I had an after-hours emergency with one of my cases last night. Claudia really helped the situation go smoother. She was able to use her skills as an interpreter and being familiar with the culture to help de-escalate the parent and come to a safety agreement as quickly as possible. She didn’t blink an eye at the fact that she had to work late either. We are lucky to have her.”
In addition to her interpreter duties, Neal serves as the Social Services representative on the Latino Resource Coalition. In 2014, she completed the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program and for the past 8 years Claudia has voluntarily served as the President for the local organization Mana al Hermano.
