Dare’s 2016 Community Health Assessment is Released
The Healthy Carolinians of the Outer Banks (HCOB), Dare County Department of Health & Human Services (DCDHHS) and The Outer Banks Hospital (OBH) are pleased to announce the official launch of the 2016 Community Health Assessment (CHA). A special video presentation was held on February 23, 2017 to share the results of the assessment with the community and begin to form task forces to address the priorities identified.
Concerns identified did not stray from the 2013 assessment as chronic diseases, older adult population issues, substance abuse and mental health remained at the top of the list. The Healthy Carolinians of the Outer Banks used the launch as a recruiting opportunity to find community members interested in participating on the task forces to address the concerns identified. Task force opportunities include: Healthy Living Task Force, Dementia & Alzheimer’s Task Force, Friendly Aging Task Force, and Breaking Through Task Force. Community members interested in participating on an HCOB Task Force can visit darenc.com/hcob and contact the task force chair.
The 2016 CHA was the second completed assessment through the partnership with public health and the hospital. The video summary, assessment narrative, appendices, and a summary of the assessment are available for download darenc.com/hcob. Hard copies can be found in the Dare County Libraries, as well as Public Health waiting rooms in Manteo and Frisco. For more information on the CHA, please contact coordinators Kelly Nettnin (DCDHHS) at 252.475.5036 or Denise DePedro (OBH) at 252.449.4529.
