NC 12 on Hatteras Island from Marc Basnight Bridge (Oregon Inlet) to Rodanthe To Remain Closed Overnight Sunday

Post Date:11/17/2019 2:58 PM
From NCDOT -
Due to the hazardous conditions currently affecting clearing operations on NC12 and given the forecast is calling for weather with similar conditions overnight, NC12 from the Marc Basnight Bridge at Oregon Inlet to Rodanthe will remain closed until weather conditions provide for safe and productive clearing efforts. Limited visibility, severe ocean over wash, and continued blown sand on the roadway have contributed to the unsafe conditions NCDOT crews are experiencing. Ocean over wash is expected to affect NC12 again Sunday night and possibly Monday with tides and wind forecast to relax by sometime midday Monday. NCDOT clearing efforts will resume at such time the weather conditions improve to allow for safe operations.

From Dare County Public Works -

Inclement weather and dangerous road conditions will prohibit residential and commercial sanitation collection from taking place on Monday for Hatteras Island customers.

If conditions allow, collection will resume on Tuesday November 19 with the following changes to the schedule:

Tuesday: Buxton, Frisco, and Hatteras
Wednesday: Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon
Thursday and Friday regular schedule
Collection on Tuesday and Friday
