EMS Captain Receives Employee of the Month

Post Date:01/11/2016 8:30 a.m.
Thomas Francisco, EMS Captain, is the January 2016 Dare County Employee of the Month. George Farah, Deputy Chief of Emergency Medical Services, presented Francisco with the award at the January 4, 2016 Board of Commissioners meeting.

Francisco began working for EMS in February 2002 as a Paramedic. In July 2004, Francisco was promoted to Lieutenant and in August 2015 Francisco received a promotion to Captain. "If I ask Tom to do something, Tom doesn't say why or question the task. He doesn't say this will never work. He figures out how to get it done and makes it happen," remarked Farah.

As an EMS Captain, Francisco is responsible for supervising and managing EMS employees during their assigned shifts and coordinating requested services from area hospitals and medical agencies. Francisco is also accountable for ensuring equipment is properly functioning and supplies are in stock and available for use.

In addition to his daily duties as EMS Captain, Francisco is the EMS department's IT administrator and is responsible for managing and overseeing the use of all internal computer programs. This includes troubleshooting, training and assisting EMS staff members on proper use of the programs. Francisco is also responsible for assuring the vehicle fleet is properly maintained.

"Tom has a great attitude. He understands what EMS is all about. He understands, the bottom line is the patient in the street and he will do whatever it takes to take care of them," said Farah during the presentation.
