Visitors are now allowed throughout the county. County offices will open at 8:30 a.m. on Monday and services resume regular schedule. State of emergency remains in place and ocean swimming is prohibited. No post storm debris pickup planned.

With Hurricane Florence expected to slow down as it makes landfall in southeast North Carolina tonight through early Friday morning, Dare County will continue to feel effects from the storm into Saturday morning, after the storm moves away.

With the changing forecast, tropical storm force winds are now expected Thursday morning. As a result, there will be no restrictions on access into Dare County until 8:30 a.m. on Thursday September 13.

The mandatory evacuation for visitors and residents remains in place for Hatteras Island. Traffic leaving the island is moving slowly due to heavy traffic and ocean overwash in some areas, but all roads and bridges remain open and there are no plans for closures.

A mandatory evacuation order for all visitors and residents on Hatteras Island will be in effect beginning Monday, September 10 at 12 p.m. A mandatory evacuation for residents and visitors in other areas of Dare County goes into effect beginning Tuesday, September 11 at 7 a.m.
