A reason or excuse is no longer needed to vote by absentee ballot. To be able to vote by absentee ballot you must be a registered voter in Dare County.

The one-stop no excuse absentee process permits all registered voters to appear in person at one of the locations beginning the second Thursday before an election but no later than 1:00 PM on the Saturday at the Elections Office before the election.

The voter may vote at the Board of Elections Office or other designated and approved one-stop voting sites.

If you are a registered voter in Dare County,  submit the North Carolina Absentee Ballot Request Form to the Dare County Board of Elections Office no later than 5 p.m. on the Tuesday before the date of the election. This form may be mailed, faxed, emailed, or delivered in person. The status of your absentee request may also be checked on the North Carolina Board of Elections website.
