THE LATEST FROM NCDOT - N.C. 12 from the Marc Basnight Bridge (Oregon Inlet) to Rodanthe is still closed as N.C. Department of Transportation crews continue to clear the road of sand caused by dune breaches. Officials are estimating that they will reopen N.C. 12. on Wednesday, November 20 by 3 p.m. Please note that this is not absolute and is subject to change.  NCDOT will continue to provide updates on N.C. 12 as new information is available.  For real-time travel information, visit or follow NCDOT on social media.

Body Composition Measurements: 
Using methods such as percent body fat, Body Mass Index, and circumference measurements are good alternatives to just using the scale as a measure of your body composition. These measurements can help you track and quantify the success of your exercise achievements in a different way.

Fitness Assessments: 
Measure your current fitness level through various exercise assessments, discuss your fitness behaviors and goals, and also help you to create a fitness plan to meet your individual needs.

Equipment Instruction: 
If you are feeling unsure or a little Intimidated by the exercise equipment you might be interested in getting a one- on- one equipment instruction. This will involve personal demonstration and instruction on how to use each piece of equipment in the fitness center properly. This is also a time for you to get all your questions answered and build up the confidence to use all the different machines.

Fitness Room

The Dare County Center features a fitness room with state of the art equipment to help you get in shape or maintain a healthy fitness program.

Equipment is available for cardiovascular development, strength workouts and flexibility conditioning including:

  • Treadmills
  • Ellipticals
  • Recumbent Exercise Bike
  • NuStep T4
  • Assorted weights and benches
  • State of the art resistance equipment for a total fitness workout

All fitness equipment is available on a first-come, first served basis. The Fitness Room is open 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday through Thursday, and 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Friday.

Prior to utilizing the fitness room for the first time, you must attend an orientation session and sign a liability release. During the session, Fitness Staff will patiently explain the proper use of each piece of equipment along with operational guidelines.  Please call 475.9270 to schedule your orientation.
