The Grants area of this department is a hazard mitigation section whereby the constant effort is underway to acquire federal and state funding to elevate homes in the low-lying areas of our county to levels above base flood.

This is accomplished by working with HUD, FEMA, North Carolina Emergency Management, NC Department of Commerce, Community Assistance and other agencies that offer any type of mitigation funding. Grant writing and administration of these grants are all included in this department.

These grants enable Dare County to assist local permanent residents in seeking funds to repair seriously damaged homes as a result of hurricanes and tidal storm events as well as elevating them above current base flood levels.

These projects are ongoing and staff encourages citizens to contact this office with their needs as a data base is maintain to enable staff to be aware of existing needs.
