From there you will see a summary of the position (including duties and requirements) and an overview of employment benefits. If you feel that job is a good fit for you, click the Apply button to start the application process.
From there you can create a profile or sign in to an existing one. If you have your resume stored on your computer or a flash drive, you can upload it to the system. You will complete the online application. You then will receive a confirmation email for each submitted application.
You will also be able to sign in to your profile and check the status of all your submissions.
How long does the hiring process take?
The time line varies for each position. Typically positions are filled within 30-60 days of posting, but there are many variables that can affect that schedule. You can log in to the system at any time and check the status of your application.
Do I have to be a Dare County Resident or US Citizen to become employed by Dare County?
Dare County residency is not required. Non-US citizens must be able to work legally in this Country and present documents verifying immigration status.

How do I apply for employment with the Dare County Sheriff's Office?
The Sheriff conducts open recruitment, which allows an applicant to submit an application at any time. The Dare County Sheriff's Office training, equipment and professionalism make us one of the most respected law enforcement agencies in the State of North Carolina.
We are always eager to speak with qualified and motivated people who are interested in being a member of our Office. The Dare County Sheriff's Office has employment opportunities in the areas of law enforcement and detention, and telecommunications.
Minimum Requirements established by the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards, and the Dare County Sheriff’s Office are the basis for consideration for employment as a Deputy Sheriff.
These requirements include:
1. be a citizen of the United States;
2. be at least 21 years of age;
3. be a high school graduate, or the equivalent (GED) (correspondence diplomas are not accepted by Sheriffs’ Standards);
4. have been fingerprinted by the employing agency;
5. have had a medical examination by a licensed physician;
6. have produced a negative result on a drug screen
7. make full disclosure of criminal charges and Domestic Violence Orders, both upon application and while holding certification;
8. be of good moral character;
9. have a thorough background investigation conducted by the employing agency, to include a personal interview prior to employment;
10. not have a prohibitive criminal record.
Medical Examination and Drug Test will be done by this office.
