The following records are maintained by our office: Marriage, Birth, Death, and Delayed Births.

If you were born in Dare County and were adopted, you have to contact Vital Records in Raleigh 919.733.3000 or visit their web site at North Carolina law prohibits public inspection of adoption records, including original birth records.

The only persons by law that may request a certified copy of a vital record are:

  • Yourself
  • Your spouse
  • Your mother/father
  • Your brother/sister
  • Your child
  • A person seeking information for legal determination of personal or property rights (proof required)
  • An authorized agent, attorney, or legal representative of the person named on the vital record


Certified copies are $10.00 each and uncertified copies are $.25 each.
